Levan Shanshiashvili is a sound artist and researcher working on Mother Tree, a project exploring how the electrical impulses of trees, plants, and other living organisms can be translated into music. Drawing on botanist Susan Simard's research into how forests communicate through their root networks, he records the bio-signals of "mother trees" in different locations and, with the help of AI, analyzes the resulting data to uncover new melodies, patterns, and connections across cultures. His live performance combines a modular synthesizer system with real plants on stage, translating plant impulses into music in real time and asking how AI can deepen our understanding of the links between humans, nature, and technology.
